Denise (@ydenisenp), the Taiwanese, worked as an SQ cabin crew for 3 and a half years right after she graduated from university, followed by one and a half years as a CI ground staff. And now, she has her own online fashion store, Carpe Diem Co (@carpe_diem_co).

With around 35k followers on Instagram, Denise loves sharing her daily outfits, travel experiences and lifestyles. Here, she talks about her first entrepreneurship and stories behind Carpe Diem Co.
You were a cabin crew in SQ with high and stable monthly income, what makes you to quit and start your own business?
During the past 3 and a half years, I was living in Singapore and the homesick is real. I couldn't imagine how my life and health will be in the future while my body clock is in mess. So when the contract with SQ came to an end, I decided to quit and try something new and different. Then, there goes my own online fashion store, Carpe Diem.
What's the meaning behind Carpe Diem? And what makes you name it as your online fashion store?
"Carpe Diem" is a word from Spanish, it brings out the meaning of "living the moment". I wouldn't think too much when I want to do something. I will take the risk and just do it, living the moment and enjoy the progress. Yeah, I am that kind of person.
Mind to share the obstacles you've met on your entrepreneurship?
I am ever grateful for all the working experiences and training that I've been through in SQ. As an ex SQ cabin crew, there are ups and downs in this prestigious job and I am more than glad that I've sailed through the toughest times and experienced the best. I've learned how to deal with all the passengers, especially with the rude ones. But now, I don't have to face-to-face talk to my customers, which is quite scary if the customer has a rude behavior. Things get so much easier by communicating through the internet!
How do you deal with negativities?
Workouts! I love playing with the spinning bike and I really think that workout is the best way to digest all the negativities.
What kind of challenge you think you will have to face in the future in fashion industries?
Fashion industries are competitive. Everyone has their own style and different perspective towards fashion. But as you can see, things that are sold in every online store are actually almost the same. In order to be different, you shouldn't put all the effort into clothing but try to combine them with something out of the box.
Last but not least, any advice for those who inspired me to be an entrepreneur?
Hmm...I think no matter who you are, we all wish to do what we enjoy doing as our job. But the truth is, it's really not an easy task, it's tougher than you could imagine. My advice is, I think it's better to work as a subordinate role under other companies before you started your own business. Trust me, in that way, your results will be different.
